IRISH RALLYING

Tributes Paid To KDMC Member Damien Fleming

Thousands of tributes have been paid to Killarney & District Motor Club Member Damien Fleming (37) Who tragically lost his life yesterday competing in the Clare Stages Rally, The Kilcummin native was a highly experienced Co-Driver competing in over 150 events over the last seventeen years.

Tributes from across Ireland and throughout the Rallying World have been shared over many rallying platforms paying tribute to Damien.

"Killarney and District Motor Club wrote: "Killarney and Disctrict Motor Club are heavy hearted that our club member, Damien Fleming, was fatally injured during a tragic motor sport accident while competing in the Clare Stages Rally this afternoon.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Damian's family and friends at this very sad and difficult time.

"Our thoughts also go out to the competitors who were on the scene, the medical and emergency personnel that attended the incident along with members of Clare Motor Club.

Sporting Manager at Art McCarrick of Motorsport Ireland spoke on RTE's Morning Ireland:

"Anyone who competes in motorsport does so because they love the sport and I have no doubt that the competitor Damien Fleming had started off yesterday full of excitement and looking forward to competing in the sport that he loved and it’s just tragic what unfolded yesterday.”

Damien Fleming was a popular figure on the scene, Mr Fleming had competed in “well over 150 events since 2006” and was well known in the community, he said.

“Obviously, it’s under investigation as to what exactly happened. Cars coming into contact in a rally where cars set off at timed intervals would be quite a rare occurence.

Motorsport Ireland also paid tribute in a statement released last night:

"The thoughts of everyone at Motorsport Ireland and within the wider motorsport community are with the Fleming family, Clare Motor Club and the members of the motorsport community who were present at the scene who reacted so quickly and professionally to the incident.

On behalf of RallyFish and as a member of Killarney & District Motor Club I would like to extend our condolences to the Fleming family, Friends and the rally community.
