WORLD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP

Non-Hybrid Rally1 Cars Approved For 2024

Non-Hybrid Rally1 cars will be permitted to compete in the World Rally Championship from 2024.

This week the FIA published sporting regulations for use in the WRC (2024) after the World Motor Sports Council ratified the regulations in Baku last week.

The revised sporting regulations now allow Rally1 cars to participate without a hybrid unit, But they must incorporate a dummy hybrid unit, matching the weight and position of a functional hybrid unit, However, Non-Hybrid cars won't qualify for manufacturer championship points.

The new regulation will please Team principles, Especially Malcolm Wilson, Who discussed the issue during a meeting with FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem at the recent Acropolis Rally Greece, Wilson highlighted the issues faced by M-Sport and expressed hope for prompt action in relation to the use of non-hybrid Rally1 cars, The non-hybrid solution, according to Wilson, would encourage both drivers and rallies to adopt Rally1 cars.

Wilson emphasized the urgency for change, stating that M-Sport’s ability to sell cars is critical to their continued involvement in the sport, M-Sport previously stated the company would need to sell 10 Rally1 cars to help sustain the teams involvement in the WRC.

The regulation will hopefully allow fans and motor clubs the opportunity to see non-hybrid Rally1 cars on national events throughout the World.
