Meeke Aims For Redemption In Madeira Rally

Team Hyundai Portugal, with the pairs Kris Meeke/Stuart Loudon and Ricardo Teodósio/José Teixeira, faces with optimism its participation in the Madeira Wine Rally (1/3 August), the sixth round of the Portuguese Rally Championship (CPR) that it has been dominating, already adding four victories in five races. The Hyundai i20 N Rally2 was fastest in 83 percent of the stages already contested since the start of the season.

Kris Meeke, leader of the CPR, arrives in Madeira committed to returning to winning ways, in order to reinforce his first place in the league table, as he stressed: "Last year the rally was very short for us, due to a mistake I made. I didn't have much experience of the race and the level of pace of the local drivers is very high. Of course it will be difficult to fight with them again, but we will set our best pace, as in previous rallies. The weather can complicate things, but I believe I can be quick and we'll see what can happen later..."

Defending champion, Ricardo Teodósio has faced several setbacks, but he still shows confidence for this fifth rally of the year: "We will, as always, give our best, taking advantage of the Hyundai i20 N Rally2. The intention is to do a regular Madeira Wine Rally, but with a good pace in order to allow us to achieve a great result".

The Madeira Wine Rally, with 15 stages (189.70 km) on asphalt surfaces, starts at the end of Thursday afternoon, as has been a tradition for a long time, with the super special City of Funchal (2.18 km), next to the waterfront. On Friday the drivers will compete in six "specials" and on Saturday, the day of all decisions, the remaining eight, with the end of the rally scheduled for 6:30 pm, with the podium ceremony on Avenida do Mar.
