Mikko Heikkilä will not compete in the upcoming ERC Barum Czech Rally. The Reigning Finnish Rally Champion is setting his focus on the 2024 season.
"We've made a decision to start the preparations for the 2024 season early. There isn't any major underlying issues behind the decision. Our debut season in the ERC has been more challenging than anticipated, but we've learned a lot from every event; lessons we'll use in order to prepare for the upcoming season, Heikkilä stated.
When all the pieces have fit the puzzle, Heikkilä has been on par with the leaders, and the pace of the Michelin-driver has been duly noted across Europe.
-On gravel, we have solid pace, but this season the stars haven't aligned for us. We've suffered punctures, technical issues and other, unrelated issues. Of course, we need to look in the mirror as well, mainly when it comes to Rome and Swedish rounds. We'll take a deep breath, and put our full focus into building solid foundations for the future, Heikkilä said.
In his most recent event, WRC Secto Rally Finland, Heikkilä suffered issues with his gear lever on the Friday's opening special stage and a further puncture on Friday morning. Despite setbacks, the Finn climbed up all the way to fifth in WRC2 category.
